Kabilang sa “drug-free” municipalities ng Mariveles, Bataan at Bolinao, Pangasinan ang mga mangingisda na nag-surrender sa awtoridad ng nakuha nilang palutang-lutang na shabu, ayon sa Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
Matatandaang nauna nang ideklarang “drug-free” ang nasabing mga lugar ayon sa Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC) matapos pumasa sa criteria ng Barangay Drug Clearing Program (BDCP).
Ayon kay PDEA Director General Undersecretary Isagani R Nerez, maayos ang pagpapatupad ng BDCP sa mga lugar na ito.
“The level of BDCP implementation in these municipalities is consistent. They have empowered and self-policing barangays, resilient citizens, stigma-free rehabilitated Persons Who Use Drugs (PWUDs) and drug reformists”, saad ni Nerez.
Dagdag pa niya, naging gawi na talaga ng residente ng lugar na iyon ang lumaban kontra ilegal na droga.
It has become a way of life for members of drug-cleared barangays to embrace a collaborative culture of cooperation and participation against illegal drug activities,” ani Nerez.
Binigyang diin din ni Nerez na sa tulong ng BDCP, maaaring tuluyang masugpo ang problema ng droga sa Pilipinas.
“We strive to eliminate illegal drugs, barangay by barangay, with the BDCP as our bedrock. The country’s drug woes are repairable as long as the program sustain its fortitude,” ayon kay Nerez. | via Florence Alfonso
