COMELEC: May 12 bets, don’t fake your SOCE

Comelec Chair George Garcia isn’t mincing words—candidates in the May 12 polls better tell the truth in their campaign finance reports or face the music. In a fiery Tuesday statement, Garcia warned that falsifying Statements of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCEs) could land candidates in hot legal water, including falsification and perjury charges.

Under the law (RA 7166), all candidates—winners and losers alike—must file their “full, true, and itemized” SOCEs by June 11. Miss the deadline or submit fake info? Expect fines or worse, a lifetime ban from public office for repeat offenders!

No extensions. No excuses. Garcia’s parting shot? “You must file your SOCEs.” The countdown is on. | via Lorencris Siarez | Photo via PNA/Ferdinand Patinio
