Alas Pilipinas’ women secured their second straight win after sweeping Australia in a dominant 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-20) victory to wrap up the preliminary round of the 2025 VTV Cup in Vietnam with a 2-1 record.
With the win over Australia, the Filipinas may finish as the second seed in Pool A if the Vietnam National Team defeats Chinese club Sichuan Wuliangchun later this evening. If that happens, they will face Thailand’s Under-21 National Team, who placed third in Pool B, in the Quarterfinals.
Otherwise, if the Chinese club pulls off an upset victory over SEA powerhouse and host Vietnam, the Alas women will likely face a tougher Quarterfinal matchup against the loser of the match between Russia’s Korabelka and the Chinese Taipei National Team, also scheduled for later tonight.
Alas will have a one day break before the do-or-die Quarterfinal match on July 3 that will determine the final four teams contending for the podium. | via Clarence Concepcion | Photo via Usports/YouTube
