“Basaan Zones” for Wattah Wattah Festival in San Juan City

To ensure order and public safety during the upcoming Wattah-Wattah Festival on June 24, the San Juan City government has designated a specific ‘basaan zone’ and will enforce a liquor ban throughout the city.

Mayor Francis Zamora said the basaan (water dousing) activities will only be allowed along Pinaglabanan Street, from N. Domingo to P. Guevarra, following complaints in past years of uncontrolled water-throwing, street altercations, and even cases of substance misuse disguised as celebration. The liquor ban, covered under City Ordinance No. 14, prohibits the selling and drinking of alcohol in public spaces on the day of the festival.

Zamora emphasized that while the celebration of St. John the Baptist’s feast is a joyful tradition, it must not cause harm or disruption. “We want everyone to enjoy the festival responsibly,” he said. | via Dann Miranda | Photo Screengrab from Mayor Francis Zamora’s FB Live
