The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Eastern Visayas is stepping up efforts to ensure fair pricing of basic goods amid slight price increases in the region. In its latest monitoring, DTI-8 reported that out of 217 essential items, 157 maintained their previous prices.
However, 60 items (about 28%) showed price increases. Most of these adjustments were minor, staying within the ₱2 or 10% limit set by the government. DTI Regional Director Celerina Bato assured the public that the agency remains committed to consumer protection. Regular market inspections and coordination with retailers will continue to ensure prices remain reasonable.
Despite the slight uptick, many consumers are coping by sticking to necessities and opting for cheaper alternatives. DTI encourages the public to stay informed and vigilant when making purchases. | via Dann Miranda | Photo via PNA
