DOTr to file criminal charges against bus conductor who tasered a PWD

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has ordered the filing of criminal charges against a bus conductor who allegedly used a taser on a person with disability (PWD) aboard an EDSA Bus Carousel unit.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon condemned the act as a “heinous crime” and directed the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to take immediate legal action. The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has also suspended the licenses of both the conductor and the bus driver, Mark Ivann Ramos, pending further investigation. The LTFRB has summoned the bus company to explain the incident, as public outrage mounted over the viral video.

Secretary Dizon emphasized the need for compassion in public service, especially toward PWDs, citing his own experience having a brother on the autism spectrum. Dizon also added that operators who mistreat vulnerable passengers will not be tolerated.| via Dann Miranda | Photo via DOTr
