As School Year 2025–2026 officially opened, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. instructed the Department of Education (DepEd) to prioritize ensuring basic utilities such as electricity, water, and internet are available in all public schools to create better learning conditions for students.
Speaking during a school visit in Malate, Manila, Marcos emphasized the importance of these services as foundational to quality education. “Electricity and water are basic needs. These must be in place so that our students can learn properly,” he said. During his visit, the President joined a Grade 1 reading session and was briefed on the school’s security features, including CCTV systems.
Marcos also highlighted a whole-of-government approach, saying various agencies are working together to support education. He directed the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Department of Transportation (DOTr) to find ways to ease financial burdens on families, while the Department of Health (DOH) was tasked to ensure school clinics are ready. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) was instructed to focus on preventing bullying and cyberbullying. | via Dann Miranda | Photo Screengrab from RTVM
