Free Mental Health Medication Program Launched by DOH

The Department of Health (DOH) has begun offering free mental health medications at select government hospitals and facilities across Metro Manila starting June 13. In partnership with the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) and other regional medical centers, the program provides treatment for mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis.

Patients can avail themselves of the free medication by presenting a valid prescription. This rollout aims to strengthen the implementation of the Mental Health Act of 2018, which mandates accessible mental health care down to the barangay level. Many patients previously struggled to afford the necessary medications, making this a timely and much-needed intervention.

The program also supports existing mental health services, including the NCMH’s 24/7 crisis hotline, counseling, and psychiatric care available in public hospitals. Health officials say this move reflects the government’s growing commitment to mental health awareness and support, especially for underserved communities. | via Dann Miranda
