Malacañang has officially declared Friday, June 6, 2025, as a regular holiday nationwide in observance of Eid’l Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice—one of the most important celebrations in Islam.
The announcement was made through Proclamation No. 911, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, in line with Republic Act 9849, which recognizes the 10th day of Dhu’l Hijja in the Islamic calendar as a national holiday. The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos recommended the date, based on the 1446 Hijrah Islamic Lunar Calendar.
Eid’l Adha commemorates the Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) devotion and willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. It is observed through special prayers, animal sacrifices, and acts of charity. Filipinos are encouraged to honor the day with respect for its religious meaning. As the holiday falls on a Friday, it also grants a long weekend for rest, reflection, or time with loved ones. | via Dann Miranda | Photo via DOLE
