President Bongbong Marcos Jr. took a bite out of agri-tech Wednesday as he toured the Metro Pacific Fresh Farms (MPFF), the Philippines’ largest hi-tech veggie greenhouse!
The 22-hectare mega farm—run by MVP’s Metro Pacific Agro Ventures—promises to revolutionize farming with climate-smart, water-saving tech straight from Israel. Marcos, flanked by Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., sampled fresh greens right from the source!
The Phase 1 rollout features six high-tech greenhouses pumping out 500 metric tons of veggies a year, including 60,000 lettuce heads every month!
Using nutrient film technique (NFT) and precision drip irrigation, the farm slashes water and land use by 90%, while boosting yield and cutting chemical use. It’s not just lettuce—tomatoes and melons are also in the mix.
MVP’s game plan is to build 10 of these green wonders nationwide—two every year—to tackle food insecurity and pricey produce. Their crops, branded “More Veggies Please,” are already hitting Metro Manila supermarkets. | via Lorencris Siarez | Photo via Radio Television Malacañang
