DOH Chief now World Health Assembly President

Big win for the Philippines on the world stage! Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa has just made history as the first Filipino to preside over the World Health Assembly’s 78th session in Geneva, Switzerland.

During his speech, Herbosa didn’t hold back—warning the world of a looming 10-million health worker shortage by 2030, and calling for “transformational” partnerships between nations. He stressed that no country can fight global health challenges alone.

WHA78’s packed agenda, Everything from a new Pandemic Agreement, Herbosa’s Philippine-led health workforce resolution, to global threats like antimicrobial resistance, non-communicable diseases, and healthcare reform.

DFA says this major role spotlights the Philippines’ deep commitment to global health equity. And it’s right in line with the country’s Eight-Point Health Agenda, tackling HIV, TB, mental health, and more. | via Allan Ortega | Photo Courtesy of WHO
