Thousands of devotees flooded St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican to witness the inauguration of Pope Leo the 14th this Sunday, May 18.
In his homily, Pope Leo called on Catholics to be instruments of unity and peace.
The Holy Pope mentioned the current worldwide situations of disaster, hate, violence, and exploitation of the world’s wealth and the poor.
The ceremony, meanwhile, featured Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle putting the Fisherman’s Ring on Pope Leo in a historic Eucharistic celebration to sign the beginning of his leadership as Bishop of Rome.
The ring was formerly used to seal papal documents, symbolic of Pope Leo’s succession to St. Peter, the first pope who was a fisherman. The ring has an image of St. Peter. | via George Mission De Leon | Photo via Screengrab from Vatican News’ YouTube Page
