1M sim cards to be distributed to students and teachers

The Marcos administration has announced plans to distribute one million free SIM cards to students and teachers across the Philippines. Each SIM card will come with a monthly data allocation of 25GB, aiming to enhance digital access for educational purposes. This initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to support digital learning and bridge the connectivity gap in the education sector.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) will oversee the distribution, ensuring that beneficiaries receive the SIM cards at no cost. This move aligns with the administration’s commitment to improving digital infrastructure and promoting equitable access to online resources for both educators and learners.

By providing these SIM cards, the government seeks to facilitate more inclusive and accessible education, particularly in remote and underserved areas where internet connectivity remains a challenge. The initiative underscores the importance of digital tools in modern education and the state’s role in supporting technological integration in schools. | via Dann Miranda | Photo via PNA
